A New Year....

I think as an organization we kind of ended 2011 with a bang! We moved, we started plans to bring a multi-sensory room to Toledo, we had successful summer day camps, out of the box activities and gave over $35,000 away to individual families and and organizations!! I would say it was a busy year.
So it's now 2012 and we have a new address, we are almost settled in and we have already had 15 plus kids in the playroom, swimming for 6 kids and we are only 4 days into the year! I am looking forward to a busy year, and  I am sure it will be exciting.
We hope to reach many more families and serve them the best way possible. We are a funding organization and that is our favorite thing to do, but we also  love community outings and FUN! I have lots of things in the works, things we have already done in the past and lots of new things to try. The SKY is the limit for our kids and we want to help them reach it.
Out of the Box has started again, but please feel free to sign up whenever, I won't turn you away. Bowling is on Monday's, Swimming on Tuesday's and Art and Music on Wednesday's. We are working on alot of new art projects for the kids, and even the volunteers are learning alot about the kids and the potential that lies within.
I am going to try and keep posting blogs of things happening with SKT as we grow this year. We will always use volunteers, ideas and donations :) Had to put that plug in....
Okay, time to get to work!

Ann Gibson Summer Day Camp

Special Kids Therapy is entering into our 7th year of Summer Day Camp! Why the name you ask? Summer Day Camp wouldn't happen without our wonderful volunteers, here is the story of an amazing volunteer that I was so lucky to work with and our namesake of camp.

Ann Gibson was a best friend to all SKT children. She loved them all and they loved her. Ann volunteered for SKT Summer Day Camp, Family Fun Day and was excited about the multi-purpose playroom. She shared her own pond and gardens with the kids during Summer Day Camp.

Not only did the kids love "Annie" but she was respected and well liked by all the SKT volunteers.

Annie passed away on January 19, 2008. She touched us all and will be remembered for the very special person she was.

Applications are online at www.specialkidstherapy.org to join our summer day camp. We have a wonderful time each summer, with many activities and fun things to do. For more information please email care@specialkidstherapy.org.

What we do!

Good Morning!
Starting a blog to hopefully get SKT's name out to those who need it and hopefully connect families and share stories of our wonderful and not so wonderful experiences with our kids with special needs.
So here goes!

Located in Findlay, Ohio, Special Kids Therapy, Inc. is a non-profit Section 501 (c)(3) charity funded by grants, individual gifts andfundraising events.  Ninety percent of the funds are used for the children. SKT is managed by an all volunteer staff and board of directors.
SKT clients include children with moderate to severe physical, mental and/or emotional challenges.
Children who have special health care needs sometimes do not have adequate insurance coverage for their traditional therapies.  For most of the alternative therapies such as;  animal, art, massage and water ( just to name a few) there is no insurance coverage.  There are few places for families with gaps in insurance, whether public or private, to turn to for funding. Because of limited funding, children may go without necessary therapies or alternative therapies/activities that enhance their quality of life. Many times families assume a large amount of debt to give their child a chance for joyful experiences.  SKT was founded because of those needs and is willing to help fill this void.
SKT will assist families with the purchase of special medical equipment. Such as, electrical wheelchairs and other mobility aides, communication devices and auditory equipment that is needed for inclusion in daily living but not covered by insurance.

SKT will consider all needs otherwise not met by other charities or insura
nce.

Hope this helps!
